MURAKOZE...thank you from Rwanda, is a non profit project based in Kigali. The purpose is to support the many co operatives in the country, which are supporting vulnerable women. As a result of the 1994 genocide in the country 70% of the population were women. Many were single parents, HIV infected, very poor, lacking skills and self esteem and in dire need of support. Co operatives provide an opportunity for these women to gain confidence and learn a skill, eg weaving, sewing as well as being a social centre for them and young children to meet. I have been privileged to be able to visit many co operatives whilst living in Rwanda. I would like, to be able to create an awareness of the great things that happen in these groups and to increase the demand for the beautiful products they can make. This is a first step to improving their lives and escaping the cycle of poverty.
