I started carving stone about 8 years ago after visiting an Open Studios exhibition at Cambridge Artworks (a collective of about 16 artists, one of which was a sculptor). The professional sculptor, Esther Melamed, held informal classes and gave instruction to "students" and I attended the studio as and when I could after work. After my retirement nearly 2 years ago, Esther offered to share her studio with me which means I can spend much more time on sculpture. This year, I will be part of the Open Studios weekends in July at Artworks. My work tends to be "stylised realism" - if such a term exists! - as whenever I have attempted abstract work, it always ends up looking like something!
